A: At KDDTC, all our classes are open to dogs of all ages. However, we specifically aim to accommodate the youngest members of your canine family in our earliest class of the day. This way, small puppies have the opportunity to learn alongside other similar-aged dogs. By practicing with peers, puppies can better develop social skills and learn to focus on their human companions amidst various distractions.

A: For your training sessions at KDDTC, please ensure you come prepared with the following essentials: yourself in comfortable footwear suitable for active participation, your dog on a standard lead (please avoid using extendable leads), and a selection of tasty treats to use as positive reinforcement. These items will help you and your dog get the most out of the training experience.

A: At KDDTC, we recommend using dog leads that are 2.4 meters or longer. This longer length allows you to effectively practice important commands such as stay and recall. Our trainers particularly favour leather police-style multifunctional dog leads, as these are durable, versatile, and built to last. Bio-thane & soft webbing are also a good choice. These leads not only withstand the rigors of regular training but also provide the functionality needed for various training scenarios. By choosing the right lead, you can ensure a more successful and enjoyable training experience for both you and your dog.

We do have leads you can borrow and use in class if you do not have a suitable lead or would like to try before you buy.

Please note that flexi/extendable leads are not suitable for use in class.

A: While extendable dog leads can be useful in certain situations, they are not suitable for our training sessions or fun agility events at KDDTC. For the safety and enjoyment of everyone involved, we request that you leave these at home. Instead, we recommend using standard leads, which offer better control and focus for both you and your dog during the session.

A: There's no pressure to invest in expensive leads; a simple bit of rope or two leads joined together can be just as effective for training your dog.

Additionally, we have leads available for you to borrow and use during class sessions. This allows you to try different options and determine what works best for you and your dog before making any purchases. Our goal is to ensure a smooth and stress-free training experience while promoting responsible dog ownership and fostering happy, obedient, and well-socialised canine companions.

A: At KDDTC, we recommend that members with female dogs in season (heat) refrain from bringing them to training nights for 3-4 weeks. This policy is in place to ensure a safe and distraction-free environment for all dogs and handlers attending our sessions. Bringing a dog in season to training can cause disruptions and stress not only to your dog but also to others. We advise waiting until your dog's heat cycle is complete before resuming training classes. This will contribute to a more focused and productive training experience for everyone involved. A: At KDDTC, we recommend using small, tasty treats for training your dog. Treats that are tiny but flavourful, approximately the size of your pinkie nail, are ideal. This size helps your dog stay focused on training without becoming distracted by a large snack. There are plenty of store bought options and we sell Davies Liver Sizzlers as they are tasty and easy to break into small pieces, other popular options include hot dog slices, chicken, liver and cheese. These treats are not only delicious for dogs but also easy to handle during training sessions, making them perfect for encouraging positive behaviour and rewarding obedience. The key is finding what your dog loves best.

A: Yes, at KDDTC, we offer Davies liver sizzlers, which are delicious and nutritious treats perfect for rewarding your dog during training and can be easily broken into tiny pieces. These treats are available for £2 per bag or you can get 3 bags for just £5.

A: For easy access during training sessions with KDDTC, it is recommended to keep the treats in a pouch or pocket on your left-hand side. This positioning is crucial because we train dogs with them on the left side. If the treats are on your right, your dog might be tempted to cross over to that side in an attempt to get closer to the rewards. By keeping the treats on your left, you help maintain your dog's focus and position, promoting better obedience and training outcomes.
